Paying it Forward: Lancaster County Wood Carvers Pass Along a Passion for Carving to a New Generation
We're trying to pass along our passion for woodcarving to future generations. Each year, the Lancaster County Wood Carvers club conducts a 10-week basic woodcarving course at several local home school cooperatives for high school-age students. We are inspired by their talent and willingness to learn. Their enthusiasm keeps us coming back every year!
First-year students are given the simple project of a Hedgehog to carve, this takes about three to four weeks to complete. The students can then choose from approximately 15 other projects we offer. We add more choices each year. We also have projects for our second-, third-, and fourth-year students.
See some of the students' projects at our Wonders in Wood carving show in March!
Lifting Spirits: Lancaster County Wood Carvers Share Talents with Hospice Patients and Families
Each year, leading into the holiday season, Lancaster County Wood Carvers teams with the Manheim Township Carvers wood carving club to carve ornaments for the Christmas tree at Lancaster Hospice. Club members then visit the Hospice to decorate the tree.
Family members of hospice patients are welcome to take an ornament from the tree as a remembrance. Our aim is to provide these families with some comfort and perhaps help lift their spirits a little during a very challenging time for them.
Our passion for wood carving enables us to express our compassion for others.
