Harry Leitheiser's Page

Harry has lived in Reading PA all of his life. He has had no formal training in any field of art, but credits his expertise to practice and to the help and teaching he received at club meetings and to the many friends he has made over the years.

Harry's first introduction in wood carving was to paint a purchased decoy blank. After four years of practice, and learning  he progressed to carving decoys, song birds animals and caricatures. About two years ago he started carving flowers, and he got hooked. He is now concentrating on miniaturizing flowers. They are all power carved, and the some of the delicate work (like Orchid leaves) are made from brass shim stock. Most of the painting is done with an airbrush.

Harry has been a valued member of The Lancaster County Woodcarvers for 25 years, and has served on the Show Committee for 20 of those years.
